ACCET Hosts Kosovo's First Roundtable on AI in Counter Terrorism and Security
The American Center for Combating Extremism and Terrorism (ACCET) hosted a debate on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in combating terrorism and enhancing national security. Dwaine Lee, Vice President at ACCET, stressed the importance of using AI to detect and prevent terrorist activities but warned of the risks, as terrorists can also exploit AI for their own agendas. He emphasized the need to protect good citizens while using AI to create a safer world.
Kosovo's Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, highlighted that AI, while a powerful tool in the fight against terrorism, is also being misused to spread disinformation. He called for responsible and legal use of AI, noting Kosovo's ongoing efforts with its anti-terrorism and cyber strategies. These initiatives focus on improving both human and technological capacities, including training police officers to handle cyber-attacks.
Edward Anderson from the OSCE emphasized the rapid development of AI and urged its use for the benefit of citizens, not for all purposes. He noted Kosovo’s progress in adopting AI and stressed the need for determination and ethical considerations in leveraging AI technology while keeping pace with adversaries.
